Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, compounded in Kuala Lumpur
At Lynnity Compounding Pharmacy, we formulate bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for patients across Malaysia — under the prescription of registered medical practitioners. Every BHRT compound is prepared in our GMP laboratory in Kuala Lumpur, using pharmaceutical-grade hormones identical in molecular structure to those the human body produces.
Quick facts
- Pharmacy Board of Malaysia registered. All compounding under the Poisons Act 1952 and Good Compounding Practice (GMP) 2018.
- Hormones we compound: estradiol, estriol, estrone, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, 7-keto-DHEA, pregnenolone, sermorelin acetate, T3 (liothyronine), T4 (levothyroxine).
- Dosage forms: topical cream, transdermal gel, sublingual troche, oral capsule, suppository, pessary.
- Turnaround: 3 to 5 working days from receipt of prescription.
- Requires: a current prescription from a Malaysian-registered medical practitioner.
What is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy?
Bioidentical hormones are molecularly identical to the hormones a human body produces. They are typically synthesised from plant sterols — soy (Glycine max) or wild yam (Dioscorea villosa) — and then chemically modified to match human estradiol, progesterone, or testosterone exactly. They differ from “synthetic” HRT drugs such as conjugated equine estrogens (Premarin) or medroxyprogesterone acetate (Provera), which are similar to but not chemically identical to human hormones.
BHRT is prescribed by a doctor for a specific patient after blood-test confirmation of hormone deficiency or imbalance. Lynnity does not initiate hormone therapy or prescribe — we compound to the dose, form, and combination the prescriber specifies.
Why patients choose compounded BHRT over commercial HRT
Off-the-shelf hormone therapy comes in fixed strengths and fixed delivery forms. A compounded BHRT lets the prescribing doctor specify:
- Exact dose — useful when the patient needs a strength that doesn’t exist commercially (e.g., 0.625 mg estradiol troche when the commercial pill is 1 mg or 2 mg).
- Combination products — estradiol + estriol + progesterone in one daily troche, instead of three separate prescriptions.
- Delivery route — transdermal cream or sublingual troche instead of oral, to bypass first-pass liver metabolism. Important for patients with liver-function concerns or migraine.
- Excipient profile — sugar-free, lactose-free, dye-free, or hypoallergenic bases for patients with sensitivities.

Our BHRT workflow
- Doctor prescribes. A registered medical practitioner sends the prescription to Lynnity by email (eugene@lynnitypharma.com) or WhatsApp (+60 12-661 8987).
- We verify. Our compounding pharmacist confirms the prescription is current, the dose is within safe limits, and the requested base is compatible with the active.
- We compound. The hormone is weighed (±5% tolerance), incorporated into the specified base (e.g., PCCA Lipoderm transdermal cream, or sublingual troche base), homogenised, and quality-checked by a second pharmacist.
- We test. Random batches are sent to an accredited third-party laboratory for potency confirmation.
- We dispense. Compound is labelled with patient name, prescriber, dose, instructions, and beyond-use date (BUD), then collected at our Kuala Lumpur pharmacy or shipped within Malaysia.
Safety, monitoring, and side effects
BHRT is not risk-free. The FDA, Endocrine Society, and Australian Menopause Society have all noted that compounded BHRT is not interchangeable with FDA-approved hormone products and that long-term safety data is less robust. We support prescribers in following these principles:
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with the patient’s clinical goal.
- Repeat blood-panel testing at 3 months, then annually.
- Pap, mammogram, and endometrial monitoring per standard menopause-care guidelines.
- Discontinue or adjust if breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness, mood change, or other adverse effects develop.
We dispense an information leaflet with every BHRT compound covering correct application, storage, beyond-use date, and what to do if a dose is missed.
Cost and turnaround
Compounded BHRT pricing depends on the hormone, the dose, the base, and the total quantity. As a guide, a one-month supply of a single-hormone compound typically falls in the MYR 80–250 range; multi-hormone combinations are higher. Prescribers and clinics can request the current pricing catalogue from alvin@lynnitypharma.com or +60 12-661 8990.
Standard turnaround is 3 to 5 working days. Urgent or complex compounds may take longer.
Frequently asked questions
What is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT)?
BHRT is hormone replacement using hormones that are molecularly identical to those the human body produces — typically derived from plant sterols (soy or yam). Lynnity compounds bioidentical estradiol, estriol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and thyroid hormones (T3/T4) in dose forms tailored to each patient.
How is compounded BHRT different from off-the-shelf HRT?
Off-the-shelf HRT comes in fixed strengths and combinations. Compounded BHRT lets a doctor specify the exact hormone, dose, delivery route (cream, gel, troche, capsule, suppository), and excipient profile for one patient — useful when the commercial product’s strength, base, or allergen profile is not suitable.
Do I need a prescription for BHRT at Lynnity?
Yes. Every BHRT compound at Lynnity requires a valid prescription from a registered Malaysian medical practitioner. Lynnity does not initiate hormone therapy; we compound to the prescriber’s specification after blood tests and clinical assessment.
What dosage forms does Lynnity compound for BHRT?
Lynnity compounds BHRT as topical creams, transdermal gels, sublingual troches, oral capsules, pessaries, and suppositories. The dosage form depends on the hormone (e.g., progesterone is often oral or vaginal; estradiol is often transdermal), the dose, and patient preference.
How long does it take to compound a BHRT prescription?
Most BHRT prescriptions are compounded and ready for collection or shipping within 3 to 5 working days from receipt of the prescription. Complex multi-hormone troches or large-quantity orders may take longer.
Is compounded BHRT covered by Malaysian medical insurance?
Coverage varies by insurer. Compounded medicines are generally treated as outpatient prescription items. Lynnity can issue an itemised invoice with the compounding pharmacy registration number for insurance claims — talk to your insurer about specific coverage.
